Common Gartersnake (Thamnophis sirtalis) -- Common gartersnakes are one of the earliest snakes to emerge from hibernation. They can be found basking in the sun as early as March or April.

    I don’t mind snakes – just the surprise of quick movement puts me off for two seconds. Wonderful picture.
