Mary, yours is the BEST card! Did someone else snap =the camera, or did you set yours up to take it? Amazing shot, once again. By the way, I can’t seem to identify the other evergreen fern I see in the woods +++ through the snow,. I do know the Christmas fern, but am stymied by the more typical-looking one everywehre. HELP! cheers, Shiela

Apologies to your readers for taking you away from them, but it’s pretty exciting that all the Holland “kids” are going to be together for Christmas for the first time in more years than I care to count!

Dear Mary – What a wonderful photo! They’re all wonderful and have added so much richness to my day when I’m here in my nearly windowless office. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and curiosity with the rest of us. I look forward to a whole new year of your posts. My goal is to collect a week’s worth and take time on the weekend to do a scavenger hunt for the things you describe. And your book is on my wish list for 2013. May you have a lovely holiday break – Melinda

P.S. I work with people who are blind or visually impaired and it is my greatest wish to build a bridge to the natural world for children and adults. Some of the things I’m learning from you are going into my little basket of ideas for multi-sensory approaches to nature.
