Newest Children’s Book Release

Animal Eyes is the first of a series of early childhood books on animal parts which I am currently writing (mouths, tails, feet, etc. to follow). This book takes a look at the eyes of a variety of animals and explores what their size, number, color and position tells us about the life style of animals as far-ranging as owls, flying squirrels, spiders and dragonflies. Appropriate for ages 3-8. Accompanying the text for each animal is a two-page, close-up photograph. “Animal Vision Fun Facts,” a “Match the Eye to the Animal” activity and an illustrated Glossary provide additional educational information at the end of the book.

Mary, you are fabulous! I am so excited for this first book, and am looking forwward to the others. I am a 5th grade teacher and use your posts often in class to teach animal and plant adaptations. These books are a perfect addition to our classroom. Michele Andrews, Northampton, MA

“To love something (or someone), is to love it (him, her, it) in its particulars.” This is the jist of a famous quote from someone. Focussing in on the details of animals’ bodies, or lives, can be a great lead in to appreciating these animals much more as a whole. This always seems like your intention. I appreciate it and feel that the natural world needs it from us, as more and more we will be responsible, or not, for their survival.

Exciting! Just ordered a hardcover for Thetford Elementary’s second grade class who visit UVLT’s Zebedee Wetlands almost weekly as part of their science, literature, art curriculum. The teachers are constantly referring to Naturally Curious. They will all love this.
