    I think a squirrel, but I wonder if the squirrel was sort of hugging the ground to reduce its profile and not be seen by a predator close by, or even a possible predator flying overhead.

    I too think flying squirrel depending on the size
    I now have 6 flying squirrels nesting in a tree at my house. They are so fast a very neat to watch even if it’s just a glimpse

    Whatever it is, I suspect it was either injured or recently deceased (body still warm enough to melt the snow) and lifted out of the print by the observer. If the critter were healthy, there should be other prints around the one shown, created when it left this spot under its own power.
