  8. These are such soothing words. They put me in mind of two places I visited regularly with a dear, now departed, friend: Horn Pond in Woburn, MA, and Plum Island in Newburyport, MA. We witnessed abundant wild life there. A special memory is of the Snowy Owl sighting on Plum Island. This friend also introduced me to Wendell Berry.

Yesterday, I found this on YouTube: Andrea Bocelli and Ellie Goulding: ‘Return to Love’, the video is beautiful, too.

this meant so much to me today…. I am on the medical staff at a University Medical Center Emergency Department where we are dealing with the Covid-19 outbreak… it’s wearing us thin and it’s quite stressful… the wild places are my refuge to quiet and calm between lengthy stretches of helping folks who are ill, frightened, often panicked. Reading this today when I was in a place that I couldn’t just walk out into that wild brought me some solace and a moment in which to take a breath, center, become still… made it easier to return to the chaos as a bit better healer. Thankful for it, Mary! To you and all of the readers….be well, stay safe, remain calm and careful.

Mary, thank you for reminding us of the Wendell Berry poem, bringing calm and wisdom where they are in short supply sometimes. I hope all the creatures are safe from the pandemic we are coping with. And may we all be attentive to keep each other and ourselves free of the virus.
