  11. Here is one great mother to succeed in raising three cubs! But while heroism on this order is fairly often seen among females of many species, we may not fully comprehend the level of commitment it entails. Mother bears set the standard for us all. Let us praise the heroic nature of mothers and grandmothers!

Mary, What a wonderful picture for this winter holiday…thank you. This past Thurs. I was walking over on the trails on the Aisha. farm in Williston. There was about 3-4” of snow cover and a variety of prints, mainly deer and turkey. We noticed across the road a pattern of spirals in the snow and wondered if you might recognize them, who made them and what they were doing. So unusual and puzzling. Any thoughts?

Thank you so much for you wonderful columns. Best wishes for the holidays and 2023.
